On Dec 9th, in honour of World Human Rights Day and the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence, our team hosted for an interactive exploration of Aura Freedom’s new Human Trafficking Info Hub where we guided attendees through an interactive session exploring the various features, sections and resources of the Info Hub. Preventing Human Trafficking by Advancing Equity and Unpacking Root Causes - A Webinar Hosted by the Freedom Collaborative

In this webinar, hosted by Freedom Collaborative by Aura Freedom, we explore the root causes of exploitation and human trafficking and how to address them. We examine the systemic oppression of marginalized groups, including women and girls, Indigenous and Black women/youth, LGBTQ2S+ youth, newcomers, and youth in foster care, among others. We also discuss how advancing equity and empowering youth can prevent human trafficking and build thriving communities.

Western University's Learning Network Resource Spotlight: Innovative Responses Created By and For Youth and Indigenous Communities

Aura Freedom and the Ontario Native Women’s Association were guest presenters for The Learning Network’s webinar Human Trafficking: Innovative Responses Created By and For Youth and Indigenous Communities. Our Director Marissa Kokkoros showcased our Peer Prevention Project, which works to prevent human trafficking by advancing equity and empowering youth.

Relentless Resilience Webinar Series- Unblurred Lines: Sexual Violence in the Workplace

Aura Freedom collaborated with Dandelion Initiative for a powerful online event on sexual harassment and violence in the workplace as part of our Relentless Resilience campaign. 30% of women have experienced one or more unwanted sexual behaviours in the workplace. This event explores sexual harassment and gender-based violence in the workplace, who is affected, and provides information on how to address it and support staff members to work in a healthy environment.

Creativity for Urban Future- Hosted by Urban + Future & Urban Economy Forum

On the Occasion of World Creativity and Innovation Day, our Executive Director was invited to discuss how gender-based violence affects urban communities and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Relentless Resilience Webinar Series- Celebrating Resilience: Focusing on Black Survivors of Sexual Violence

Aura Freedom collaborated with the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre / Multi-Cultural Women Against Rape and Toronto vocalist Renee for another Relentless Resilience event to highlight the realities and resilience of Black Survivors of sexual violence and explore the dangerous combination of gender inequality and anti-Black racism that Black women face in their daily lives.

Relentless Resilience Webinar Series- A Diplomatic Genocide: Violence Against Indigenous Women in Canada

Aura Freedom collaborated with Indigenous artists, community members and frontline workers in Toronto for an online event on violence against Indigenous women, as part of our Relentless Resilience campaign. Through community conversations, this event raises awareness of violence against Indigenous women in Canada, its roots in colonialism and patriarchal ideals, and how advancing equity is key to eradicating it. Including a grass dance by Scott Norton and opening ceremony by Elder Pat Green.
